Windows Vista has lot of built in features which are very much useful to users and one such feature / utility / tool is resizing hard drive partition. In earlier versions this feature was not available and users were using third party tools like partition magic to perform this operation.
Using this feature to resize the hard drive partition will not delete the data stored on that partition but personally recommend that to have back up before doing such changes.
If you looking to resize the drive partition then follow the below mentioned steps:
- Right click on My Computer
- Clicks on manage option
- Locate Disk Management and select
- Select the partition on which you want to make changes
- Right Click and click on “Shrink Volume” to decreased the size of the paritition and “Extend Volume” to increase the size of the partition.

Most of the computer users loose their important data when they use system restore disk. Windows System Restore or Recovery Disk provided with Desktop or Laptop PC of brands like Dell, HP, Sony, Compaq etc., will reformat and re-installs Windows and ends up in loosing all critical data which may include your My Documents, Outlook Emails, Desktop files and folders etc., from active partition.
If this is your case then your lost data is recoverable until it has not been overwritten by the new installation of Windows. You should remove this drive and attach as a secondary / slave to another healthy Windows drive and further install Windows Data Recovery Software to scan the partition / drive to evaluate the possibilities for recovering your most important lost data.

When you delete a file, it’s physical content remains intact on the media, but the occupied space becomes marked as free. Next file which is saved to the disk may overwrite the contents of the deleted file.
Therefore, it is very important to make sure that no application writes to the drive or partition where deleted file is located, since every new file may overwrite the deleted file.
When you realize that the file which you need is deleted, you are supposed to follow some instructions:
- Do not open or close files and applications. Many applications create temporary files which may overwrite and corrupt your deleted files.
- Depending on your system configuration, you should perform of the following actions:
- If deleted files were located on the system disk (usually disk “C”), or if you have only one logical disk in the system, you should not install any software into the system, since it will most likely overwrite your deleted file.
Undelete Software:
Undelete Software allows you to recover deleted files. It recovers deleted files, lost files, and files deleted from Windows Recycle Bin. It also recovers files lost due to virus attack, corruption of hard drive, software malfunction or unexpected system shutdown.
Important Features of Undelete Software:

Unlike other version of Windows operating system, Vista has much more security and cannot let you install the software that requires administrative privileges until you disable the UAC. If you want to install you need to follow certain procedures with User Account Control (UAC).
Check this for how to run a program as an administrator in Windows Vista and to disable User Account Control (UAC)

Usually deleting files using “Del” key will move the file to “Recycle Bin” and can be restored back easily. However, recovering deleted files after using Shift + Del key or when recycle bin has been emptied from Windows Vista, then there is a requirement for simple recovery software such as Undelete. Undelete utility has been designed to locate and recover deleted files from the hard drive, USB drives, flash drives and other removable media.
Disk Doctors Undelete is a robust, reliable, and fastest Undelete Software to recover deleted files from Windows Vista. It can recover deleted files from both NTFS and FAT partition. One of best feature includes with Free trial version of Disk Doctors Undelete is preview of files before recovery. There would be no hesitation in saying that it the most “Fastest” and the best Undelete software I have ever seen.
